Winding down after a full day of childcare

Updated: Nov 1, 2020

Normal life as we knew it has changed in ways we couldn't have imagined prior to the pandemic. And many of us are now 24/7 parents, although haven't we always been since the day our first child was born?!

Parenting has taken on a new dimension, no schools, nurseries, play groups, family to babysit, it really has just been down to us parents to play all kinds of roles we never imagined. Homeschooling was once a choice, working from home used to mean a day to focus with no distractions from the office, however, recently we have had to learn adapt to changes in our parenting.

So we are left at the end of each day exhausted, even more so than before lockdown. And whilst we are enjoying this new way of life and spending more time at home with our families, it can be difficult to turn off and relax at the end of each day.

As the normal week day schedule is out of the window and the days merge in to each other, we're finding it increasing difficult to switch off at the end of the day, with our home office in the lounge tempting us to send that one last email and endless toys all of the house it can be to get a minute to unwind.

Our top tips for some much needed R&R:

  • Start a new book, and keep reading it!

  • Light a candle

  • Take time for a bath

  • Go for a walk after dinner, the kids can enjoy as well

  • Try a new recipe

  • Tidy your home office/desk at the end of each day

  • Set a bedtime and stick to it

  • Wake up early before everyone else and enjoy a coffee in peace
